The Terra Nova Foundation workshops are now available to attend online covering a range of resilience-related areas including leveraging AI for capacity and capability building, and preparing community leaders for increasing risks. The workshop also provides access to an internationally certified carbon emission measurement tool provided by CarbonTrial.
The Earth+ programme is designed in partnership with the Rātā Foundation and with support from the Christchurch City Council. It connects participants with a network of community practitioners for on-going support in their journey towards resilience.
Free registrations for the one-day workshops are available for up to 50 Not-for-Profits across Canterbury, Tasman/Nelson and Marlborough to join the workshops, the first one taking place on July 28.
Over 100 community and charity organisations have participated in the innovative Earth+ programme to date. Rose Challies, CEO of Terra Nova Foundation, says the next series of workshops is timely as the Not-for-Profit sector is operating in a particularly challenging environment.
“Community organisations are really under pressure now as changes including climate and economic forces are coming fast and unpredictably,” Rose says.
“The Earth+ programme has been designed to help navigate these challenges and support organisations with practical and meaningful tools and actions that can make a real difference. The goal is to help future-proof them to continue operating with confidence in a constantly changing environment, and importantly so they drive impact for the people or environment they serve.”
Since starting in 2025, 111 Not-for-Profit organisations across Canterbury, Tasman/Nelson and Marlborough regions have completed the one-day workshops. Following the programme, this cohort have reported a 28% reduction in carbon emission intensity per dollar spend due to changes made to travel, waste management, and energy efficiency.
Rose says that supporting emission reductions are just one aspect of the workshop. “Participants have reported one of the important outcomes is the connection with a vibrant community of practice who are experiencing the same challenges and able to support each other with resources, tools and ideas.”

The Earth+ programme is online and free for the first 50 Not-for-Profits (charities and community organisations) across Canterbury, Tasman/Nelson and Marlborough who register at the link below. The first workshop takes place on July 28.
